Man Walks From Lagos To Abuja To Mark The Victory Of Gen Buhari

Now In Niger Suleiman Hashimu from Funtua-Katsina state (pictured above in red) is on his way to fulfilling his promise that he would work from Lagos to Abuja if Gen. Muhammadu Buhari wins the 2015 Presidential election.

Speaking with newsmen, Suleiman said he's bent on completing his journey on foot no matter how long it takes and stressed that he's doing it because he must keep to his promise he made two years ago and does not expect any compensation.

However, Mr. Hashimu, who says he takes rest anywhere nightfall hits him is now considered a hero.

Suleiman Hashimu or ‘The traveller’ as I prefer to call him is an indigene of Katsina state, Funtua to be precise. He was born in Osun state but lives in Ibadan.

The traveler promised two years ago to walk from where ever he is to the capital of Nigeria, Abuja if General Muhammadu Buhari wins the election in 2015. BBC Hausa, Voice of America and Aminiya (a Hausa mgazine) interviewed him. He was in Lagos when Buhari was declared the President-elect of Nigeria. He left Lagos at about 5am the next day and arrived Ibadan around 6pm.He went to get a police report to allow for the smoothness of his journey but couldn’t wait and so, the D.P.O. gave him his phone number. Despite several discouragement from friends and at the same time, inspiration from friends and loved ones; he continued from Ibadan to Oyo. Then from Oyo to Ogbomoso.; And from Ogbomoso to Ilorin with much hospitality at every stop.

An Indian Village Plants 111 Trees Every Time a Girl Child is Born

An Indian village in the Rajasthan Rajsamand district of the country has a unique tradition of celebrating their daughters in this modern times. And their means of celebration is very Eco-friendly. Since 2006, the people of Piplantri village made it a way of life to planting one hundred and eleven (111) trees to commemorate the birth of a girl child. 

According to reports, the villagers have managed to to plant over 250,000  like Neem, Indian Rosewood, and Mango-giving that an average of 60 girls are born each year. However, to ensure that the trees are free from harmful insects they have managed to plant 2.5 million Aloe Vera plants around them. 

Started by the village’s former head-‘sarpanch’-Shyam Sundar Paliwal, in memory of his dead daughter Kiran. With the population of 8,000 residents, all are dedicated to making sure that the trees survive and attain fruition as the girls grow up. (See the video after the cut...)

Mother Of Three Missing Boys Weeps And Pleads For Their Return - Video

                        

The Mother of the missing Orekoya boys who were kidnapped from their home in Surulere last week by a house-help (read here) been heartbroken and here she weeps and begs for their return in a video from TV Continental. The kids - Aderomola Orekoya, 11 months, Adedamola Orekoya, 4, and Demola Orekoya, 6, are still missing till date.

INEC Declares Elections In Abia, Imo And Taraba Inconclusive

The Imo state governorship rerun election has been fixed for April 25th in 256 polling units. INEC had on Sunday April 12th declared the election between APC candidate, incumbent governor Rochas Okorocha and PDP candidate, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, inconclusive following some electoral irregularities.

Likewise, the INEC Returning Officer-Imo state and Vice Chancellor of Federal University Abakiliki, Ebonyi State Professor Ibidapo Obe, who made the declaration around midnight on Sunday at INEC Headquaters, Owerri, said the decision was taken following cancellation of election in several wards and polling booths across the state. Saying the total number of registered voters in the affected areas were highly significant to determining the outcome of the election.

Malala Yousafzai, Pakistani education activist and the youngest Nobel Prize winner wrote a heartbreaking letter to missing Chibok girls to mark their one year in captivity yesterday, April 14.

Presidential Transition Committee Begins Work Ahead Of May 29

A transition committee which would commence preparation ahead of May 29th

to ensure smooth transition in government from outgoing President Jonathan to President-elect Gen. Buhari has been inaugurated in Abuja today April 13th.

Senator Pius Anyim said the committee discussed terms of references and develop guidelines that will be used for the handover while speaking to state house correspondents after their meeting.

"We met to discuss the terms of reference and develop the guidelines for preparing the handover briefs and the committee adjourned to April 20 for its second meeting. Ours is to collect our own hand over briefs, prepare the briefs and prepare the President handover notes. The terms of reference of our own committee is to collate relevant information for the handover briefs from all the MDAs, prepare them and interface with the incoming administration’s transition committee,” he explained.

Professor Christine McKenzie from the University of Southern Denmark said, "An important aspect of this new material is that it does not react irreversibly with oxygen; even though it absorbs oxygen in a so-called selective chemisorptive process. The material is both a sensor, and a container for oxygen. We can use it to bind, store, and transport oxygen – like a solid artificial hemoglobin."

I Can't Promise My Government Will Find Missing Chibok Girls - Gen. Buhari

President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari has made known that his incoming government cannot promise the return of over 200 missing Chibok girls abducted by Islamic sect Boko Haram a year ago. But however they would do everything within their power to secure their return.

800,000 Nigerian Kids Displaced By Boko Haram - UNICEF

More than 1.5 million people have fled their homes due to insurgents activities of the deadly Islamic group Boko Haram in the North-East part of Nigeria; UNICEF reports.

In a new report titled Missing Childhoods:The impact of armed conflicton children in Nigeria and beyond published today, April 13th, UNICEF said "about 1.2 million are displaced internally, while others have crossed into Cameroon, Chad and Niger.  While--the number of children forced from their homes has more than doubled in the past year, reaching 800,000 children and vast majority of the displaced are staying with host communities with little access to humanitarian support, putting additional strains on already stretched health, education and social services."

According to UNICEF statistics of Refugees and internally displaced populations:
Nigeria: 1,235,294 
Niger: 100,000 
Chad: 41,300 And
Cameroon: 146,000

UPDATE On The Three Young Boys Kidnapped By Their Househelp

The three missing boys pictured above are from Orekoya family of Lawanson Road, Surulere, Lagos State. Aderomola, (11 months), Adedamola (4 years) and Demola (6 years) was kidnapped by their nanny a day after she was employed on March 7.

The 23-year-old nanny named Mary Akinloye from Ibadan, Oyo State, was said to have been contracted via OLX, an online sales portal, Punchng reports.

Their Mother, Adebisi revealed to PUNCH Metro that Akinloye, who looked older than her age claimed she was an indigene of Oyo State, which she found questionable because of her accent.

However, their former House-help didn't resume to her duties after observing her annual leave before Akinloye was employed through OLX; Adebisi explained.

Afghan Woman Forced To Marry Her Rapist To Avoid Prison

Pictured above-left, sitting next to her rapist this Afghan woman known only by her first name Gulnaz was forced to marry her her cousin's husband-Asadullah raped her as a teen of 16-years-old. 

Gulnaz from Kabul-based woman was abandoned by her family even though she pregnant as a result of the rape; as its a crime in Afghan to sleep with a married man whether its rape or not. She was sentenced to two years in prison by a Kabul court for 'adultery by force', but later was increased to 12 years following an appeal.

Speaking with CNN, Gulnaz revealed she married Asadullah as it was the only hope of a reduced sentence and for her daughter's future.

"I didn't want to ruin the life of my daughter or leave myself helpless so I agreed to marry him. We are traditional people. When we get a bad name, we prefer death to living with that name in society." she said.

Plastic Jesus(pictured left) mounted seven of 'NO Kardashian Parking Anytime' signs around Hollywood, even in front of the Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian-owned clothing store Dash and other hot spots in LA city as "The Kardashian family has become ingrained in our culture."

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter he said that he came up with the idea for the piece while driving down Melrose Avenue a few weeks ago, when traffic came to a complete halt when one of the Kardashian sisters walked out of a storefront and paparazzi swarmed to grab a picture.

Court Orders DStv To Suspend Increase In Subscription Fees

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has restrained MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, owners of DStv from implementing their 20% increase in tariffs.

The restraining order was given by Justice C.J. Aneke following a suit filed by two Lagos-based legal practitioners, Osasuyi Adebayo and Oluyinka Oyeniji challenging the increase.

MultiChoice Nigeria Limited announced price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria, in March; said it was necessary for the company to continue offering good quality programming to its subscribers. 

The new tariffs was supposed to commence on April 1st.  There would be no increase until the court re-adjourns on April 16th. 

Three Fake doctors Jailed For $274,210 Phoney Drugs And Surgery Scam

The rise of fake doctors in China has grown to a very worrisome level. 

A Shanghai court--Pudong New Area People’s Court, has sentenced three men (all in their 20's from east China’s Jiangxi Province) to prison yesterday, Tuesday, April 7th for defrauding six victims of 1.7 million RMB (US$274,210) in a fake drug and surgery scam, Shanghai Daily reports.

The ringleader of the three-man gang identified by the court only by the surname Li, received 12 years. The other two men, surnamed Yan bagged 11 years while Lai, received eight years. 

According to reports, the men convinced their victims to purchase phoney drugs and other medical products produced by them and services after illegally obtaining their medical records.

It's Card Readers Or Nothing-INEC

In preparation ahead of Saturday April 11th Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections in all the 36 States in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has stressed that "Card Readers" must be used on the election day.

INEC made this known in a press statement signed by the Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Augusta C. Ogakwu. Read INEC statement below..

The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to inform all Nigerians that Card Readers will be used for the April 11, 2015 Elections.

The provision of the Guidelines for the conduct of the 2015 General Elections which outlined what is to be done if a Card Reader fails and cannot be replaced by the Commission within a specified time frame (i.e. Reschedule the election to the next day) will be enforced.

Its also been clarified that they would be "No Movement" during the election day.

Demonstrators Hit The Street Of LA Over the Murder Of Unarmed Black Man By A White Cop

Demonstrators have seen lots of innocent people killed by law enforcement and took to the street of Los Angeles in front of the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration on yesterday Tuesday, April 7th, to protest against the recent killing of  Walter Scott, 50 (pictured above-left) by 33-year-old Police officer Michael Slager(pictured above-right) on Saturday morning April 4th after stopping him over a broken tail light. As well as part of a march in memory of all other people who have also been killed by law enforcement.

Michael Slager, Police officer in North Charleston, South Carolina, was arrested yesterday April 7th and charged for murder after the video (watch below) was seen by police. 

However, he had initially claimed that he shot Scott because he feared for his life, but the shocking video captured by a bystander who has been hailed as a hero; showed how he shot a fleeing unarmed black man five times in the back then handcuffed his lifeless body after he crumpled on the ground.

Before the time of his dead Scott is said to have served two long years as a US Coast Guard veteran.

Cultists Kill 14 Year Old For Refusing To Join Their Cult

Calabar-Nigeria--A boy of 14, who was identified as David Okon was stabbed to death by members a cult group in Cross Rivers state called Skylo after he refused to join them. 

According to the state Police commissioner, Mr. Henry Fadairo, who spoke to the Sun, David was stabbed to death by one Ita in the group at T junction, Ikot Ekpo, 8 Miles in Calabar, which is the state capital on February 4th.

Meanwhile, the police investigations had led to the arrest of some members of the cult group pictured above--18-year-old  Etim, Okon-15, Effiong, 18-years and Ekpo-15. 

 

According to reports, Ita and some of his cult members tried all they could to lure David into joining their cult for several months but failed. His refusal led them to stabbing him to death. Confessing to the murder of David, Ita said

“I am a member of “Skylo” group. We used to terrorize Calabar residents. When Okon was called to join the “Skylo” group, we started putting pressure on him to join. When he was adamant by refusing to join us, we have to murder him by stabbing him at the back."

Buhari for his victory and President Jonathan for his bold and graceful acceptance of defeat; we should also Thank Prof. Jega for the Work well done.  All party agents representing the 14 different political parties that contested for the Presidential election were called up by INEC Chairman Prof. Jega to sign the election sheet after announcing the presidential election results, except for the agent for PDP, who climbed the stage, spoke with Prof. Jega, shook his hands and walked away without signing the result sheet while others did.
