800,000 Nigerian Kids Displaced By Boko Haram - UNICEF

More than 1.5 million people have fled their homes due to insurgents activities of the deadly Islamic group Boko Haram in the North-East part of Nigeria; UNICEF reports.

In a new report titled Missing Childhoods:The impact of armed conflicton children in Nigeria and beyond published today, April 13th, UNICEF said "about 1.2 million are displaced internally, while others have crossed into Cameroon, Chad and Niger.  While--the number of children forced from their homes has more than doubled in the past year, reaching 800,000 children and vast majority of the displaced are staying with host communities with little access to humanitarian support, putting additional strains on already stretched health, education and social services."

According to UNICEF statistics of Refugees and internally displaced populations:
Nigeria: 1,235,294 
Niger: 100,000 
Chad: 41,300 And
Cameroon: 146,000 


UNICEF regional director for West and Central Africa, Manuel Fontaine said; The April 14, 2014, kidnappings at a girls school in Chibok by the Islamist group Boko Haram "is only one of endless tragedies being replicated on an epic scale across Nigeria and the region." 

UNICEF report further stated that; "Scores of girls and boys have gone missing in Nigeria -- abducted, recruited by armed groups, attacked, used as weapons, or forced to flee violence. Young women and girls are being subjected to forced marriage, forced labor and rape."

The abduction of over 200 schoolgirls a year ago by Islamic sect Boko Haram has keep the global attention and inspired the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.
