Post-graduate students of UNN protest over hike in tuition fees

Post-graduate students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, barricaded the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ben Ozumba, in protest against hike in their tuition fees, describing the increase from N69,000 to N145,000 as outrageous.
The placard-carrying protesters, numbering over 200, marched round the school and barricaded the VC’s office.

The students say “To us, the increment is outrageous. We are not against any increment, but it should be reasonable. It is not fair to increase the fees for a session of nine months from N69,000 to N145,000. Where do they expect us to get that kind of money? We will continue this protest until the university reduces it. I do not think it is a crime for one to further his education in UNN.”

26-year-old Grace Smith, wife of photographer Ejeh Smith who was tortured alongside her husband, Ejeh, by Dada Ogunsanya, a policeman attached to the Ikoyi Police Division, Lagos last week Wednesday at Lekki round about has got a frightening news--that she's pregnant. 

Grace and husband, who have been longing for a child more than a year ago never new she was pregnant before the sad incident that left her and her partner hospitalized.

Sierra Leone forced to cancel CHRISTMAS over Ebola

 

The government of Sierra Leone has said that Christmas and New Year Eve celebrations this year are off the table. This they said is to help halt the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EDV).

Military will be patrolling the streets throughout the Sierra Leone city to ensure people to stay indoors during Christmas and New Year in order to get the number of infections under control. Even, Bars and clubs have already been shut down ahead of the holiday season and all public gatherings  outlawed as well.

Police arrests 13-year-old explosives packed vest in kano

 

The 13-year-old girl (pictured above) wearing an explosives-packed vest was arrested in Kano state on December 11th, after she and a male accomplice walked into a clinic seeking medical treatment. Suspicious hospital staff alerted police who immediately arrested the two.

According to reports, on searching her, Police discovered explosives hidden under her hijab. However, the police revealed that the young girl was from Bauchi and was part of the 'suicide team' that attacked a market in Kano on Wednesday Dec. 10th.

Nigeria: Man allegedly dies after consuming 8 cans of ‘Energy Drink’ to win N1,600

A man simply identified as Elijah Nwankwo from Ikwo, Ebonyi state has allegedly died after drinking eight cans of Energy Drink in a course to win over a bet.

A source disclosed that the deceased, had on Thursday, boasted to drink the cans and smile home with the sum of N1600, which was put for a bet by one Chikwado Nchionu.

The police spokesman in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, who confirmed the incident said that the deceased became weak and went into coma after taking the drinks.

Three Students Shot in Oregon School Shooting

 

Three students have been hospitalized in a school shooting in Portland-Oregon, yesterday, police have confirmed.

According to Daily Mail, Emergency services were scrambled to Rosemary Anderson High School in Portland, Oregon, at noon on Friday, Dec. 12th, after the attack on the street corner of the campus.

A 17-year-old student was shot in the back and another in the chest, according to Oregon Live.The third victim's condition has not been confirmed.

Obasanjo's book sells out, SSS block importation of more copies

The controversial autobiography of former President Olusegun Obasanjo titled "My Watch" has reportedly sold out just four days after it was officially launched.

Despite a high court injunction to stop it from circulating as A judge had ordered that copies of the book be confiscated by the police and the DSS after Obasanjo breached the court order and went ahead to launch it. 

 

According to an associate to the former President who spoke with Sahara Reporters, said Obasanjo has exhausted the first copies of the book. 

“Baba sold all the copies that were brought in,” the associate said

Nigeria: Woman And Her Children in SCID Custody For Killing Husband In Lagos

A middle-aged woman, Comfort Tifase and her children, Olufumbi and Oluropo, have been reportedly killed her husband with a pair of scissors at their residential home in Mile 2 area of Lagos State.

Comfort and her two children are currently being interrogated by officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, over the circumstances surrounding the death of her husband, Moses during a fight at their Block 285, flat 6, residence, Jakande Estate Mile 2.

Osun 2007 bomb explosion: Court sentences prime suspect to death by hanging

An Osun State High Court yesterday Dec. 11 sentenced the prime suspect of the bomb explosion that rocked the premises of Osun State Secretariat, Abeere on June 14th 2007, Mr Richard Abayomi Adesanmi,  to death by hanging. 

The presiding judge, Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe while handing down his judgement convicted Adesanmi on all the six-count charge, including murder and conspiracy to effecting unlawful purpose, 35 years imprisonment without an option of fine that would run concurrently with his sentence.

“the prosecution had proven their case beyond reasonable doubt. Richard Abayomi Adesanmi is, hereby, sentenced to death for murder by hanging till he gives up the ghost.” Justice Adeynika said.

Meet Tristen Kurilla- the 10 year old boy who beat a 90 year old woman to death

10-year-old Tristen Kurilla of Damascus Township, Pennsylvania, (pictured above) has been reported to continuously beat a 90 year old woman until she died.

Tristen, who currently being held in the adult jail as he awaits trial is the youngest person ever to face a murder charge in Pennsylvania.

According to reports, Tristen was visiting his grandfather in October this year. said he entered the room of Helen Novak-90 who lived with his grand dad on Oct 11 to ask her a question. But Helen screamed at him and told him to leave her room. Little Mr. Kurrilla then lost his temper, picked the woman's wooden cane and attacked the woman who was sitting in her bed.

BBC Report: Boko Haram carried out the deadliest single Jihadist attack in November

According to statistics released by the BBC World Service and International Centre for the study of Radicalization, Boko Haram-Nigeria's terror group, carried out the second highest number of terror attacks in the month of November world-wide. The statistics showed that 5,042 deaths from 664 jihadist attacks were recorded in the month of November with Iraq, Nigeria, Syria and Afghanistan accounting for 80% of the total death toll.

TIME names The 'Ebola Fighters' as Person of the Year 2014

Time Magazine has named all the doctors, nurses and health workers who have worked selflessly and tirelessly since the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus around the world as 2014 Time Person of the Year. 

At an unveiling ceremony in the US yesterday, TIME's managing editor, Nancy Gibbs, said the men and women were chosen for their 'exceptionally great amount of courage, kindness and bravery' in battling the worst outbreak of Ebola in history. 

"For tireless acts of courage and mercy, for buying the world time to boost its defenses, for risking, for persisting, for sacrificing and saving, the Ebola fighters are TIME’s 2014 Person of the Year.' Nancy said
