High-Flying Ghanaian ‘Cocaine Lady’ Sentenced To 8 Years By London Court

Nayele Ametefe (aka Ruby Adu Gyamfi) has been sentenced to of eight years and eight months in prison by a British court according to GhanaWeb.
The sentencing of this Ghanaian woman whose 12.5kg cocaine saga rocked the nation a few months ago happened yesterday, Jan. 6th. However, Ms. Ametefe had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge of attempting to carry 12.5 kilos of cocaine to the United Kingdom which is said to have a street value of over $2million.
Court transcripts show that the judge had remarked that the substance Ms. Ametefe was caught carrying was among the purest form of cocaine ever seized at the Heathrow Airport with a purity level of 79%. 
 
Before her arrest, it was alleged that Ms. Ametefe was en route to the Dominican Republic. The 32-year-old is also believed to have used the VVIP Lounge of Ghana’s only international airport – Kotoka – in the capital Accra to smuggle the prohibited substance outside the shores of the West African country via a British Airways flight.
