About two weeks after Nigeria’s secret police, the State Security Service [SSS], cleared a former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, of any link to the extremist Boko Haram sect, PREMIUM TIMES has obtained a video suggesting that President Goodluck Jonathan is personally aware and strongly convinced of the former’s governor’s longstanding relationship with the founder of the sect.

In the video clip, shot in April 2013 during a visit he made to Borno state, Mr. Jonathan was heard describing Mr. Sheriff, who was then a member of the opposition All Progressives Congress [APC] as a “friend” of Mohammed Yusuf, the man who founded and led Boko Haram for years.

Police take down women ring specializing in 'adult breastfeeding' in China

Cause of Ebola outbreak was 'a young boy playing near colony of infected bats', scientists say

Scientists revealed today that the cause of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EDV) that hit West Africa this year was a 2 year old boy, known as Patient Zero, who played on a tree near a colony of virus-infested bats in his village in Meliandou, Guinea. Zero was the first person to die. But before his death, he infected other family members, who in turn spread it to others, which eventually spread into other areas in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Senegal, before moving to the US, UK, Spain and even today, Scotland confirmed its first Ebola case.

According to WHO, this Ebola outbreak is by far the largest ever-recorded outbreak and it has killed about 7,800 people by Dec. 17, 2014.

Update on missing AirAsia jet: 40 bodies & debris of jet found floating in sea

Indonesian officials said they have found 40 dead bodies, luggages, a plane door, and an emergency slide floating in the water off the coast of Borneo Island, Karimata straights Southwest of Pangkalan Bun in the Borneo province of Central Kalimantan. they said all debris and luggages are from the AirAsia flight QZ8501 that disappeared two days ago after losing communications with control tower due to storm clouds.

Out of the 40 bodies found, many of them not wearing life jackets , have been removed from the water and taken from the scene on board an Indonesian navy ship. Several pieces of red, white and black debris were earlier spotted in the Java Sea near Borneo island which officials later confirmed to be debris from the missing jet. However, family members who were at the airport waiting for any good news from the missing planes, watched live on TV as the rescue team found bodies of loved ones floating on the sea and was being recovered.

Scotland Confirms First Case Of Ebola Virus Disease

A health care worker, who just returned from Sierra Leone to Scotland has become the first confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EDV) in Scotland.

In a statement released by Scottish health agency NHS Scotland, the patient is said to have returned from Sierra Leone Sunday night, flying to Morocco, then London’s Heathrow airport, before reaching Glasgow airport.

"The patient was admitted to hospital early in the morning after feeling unwell and was placed into isolation at 7.50 a.m. All possible contacts with the patient are now being investigated and anyone deemed to be at risk will be contacted and closely monitored."

Missing AirAsia plane likely at bottom of sea – Official

An Indonesian official has said the missing AirAsia carrying 162 persons is likely at the bottom of the sea.

The head of the Asian country’s National Search and Rescue Agency, Bambang Soelistyo, said this while addressing reporters yesterday, Dec. 29 after search resumed following the suspension on Sunday evening.

“Based on the coordinates given to us and evaluation that the estimated crash position is in the sea, the hypothesis is the plane is at the bottom of the sea,” he was quoted by Al-Jazeera as saying.

Indonesia has deployed naval ships, planes, and helicopters in a search that is also being assisted by neighbouring Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia.

Authorities announced the missing Airbus A320-200 on Sunday morning about 45 minutes after it left Surabaya, Indonesia for Singapore. Authorities have also said the plane was in good condition, as it had undergone maintenance on November 16, but that the pilot reported bad weather and had asked to ascend by 6,000 feet to 38,000 feet to avoid heavy clouds.

Search for missing AirAsia flight carrying 162 from Indonesia to Singapore suspended

Indonesia's Aviation Ministry has suspended the search for missing AirAsia jet that disappeared early hours of yesterday morning, Dec. 28th while flying from the city of Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore. According to Indonesian transport ministry official Hadi Mustofa, the search was suspended due to night fall but will continue today, Dec. 29th as early as 7am.

The AirAsia flight which was carrying 162 people had 138 adults, 16 children and one infant, 2 pilots, 4 flight attendants and one engineer lost contact with air traffic control about two hours after take-off, while flying over the Java Sea.

13-year-old Kano suicide bomber says father donated her to Boko Haram

A 13-year-old suicide bomber who was arrested by the Kano state Police command yesterday Dec. 24th has confessed that it was her father that donated her to the deadly Boko Haram sect. The girl identified as Zahra'u Babban Gida was found with explosives strapped on her body opposite the Kantin-Kwari textile market, same place where two female suicide bombers detonated bombs two weeks ago killing many.

According to her, the unknown men told her to carry out the suicide attack in order to make heaven or they would kill her if she doesn't follow through with the bomb attack. 

“I was in the bush when the people some who looks like Arabs and some huge black men told me that did I know what is suicide mission, that is one killing himself? I said no I don’t know, they explained it to me and said that if I did plus reciting Sura Albakara I will straight go to Paradise.  I declined and told them I will not do it, they now told me that they would dig a hole and bury me alive because that is what they do to all women who refuse to adhere to their demands, and they said they meant what they said, I now complied,” Zahharau narrated.

Father of Jordanian pilot captured in Syria pleads with ISIS to show mercy and release his son

The father of a Jordanian pilot, First Lieutenant Mu'ath Safi Yousef al-Kaseasbeh captured by Isis has issued a heartfelt plea to the militants to release him. (pictured above)

 

Mr. Joseph Kasasbeh, a retired education director, told Saraya News that he hoped Isis would be compassionate. He said: 'I hope god will put mercy in their hearts and they will release my son.'

However, here's a quick recap on his capture. 27 year old Jordanian pilot-First Lieutenant Mu'ath Safi Yousef al-Kaseasbeh was captured by ISIS militants after his warplane was shot down while he was conducting airstrikes over Syria. ISIS shared photos of his capture on Twitter.

His attempt to escape also failed as he was brought down by vigilant soldiers when he tried to flee after hitting a military Amoured Personnel Carrier with his IED laden Honda car. The explosives which failed to detonate have been evacuated and handed to the police.

President Jonathan To Buy New Executive Jet

President Goodluck Jonathan wants to ride yet another new aircraft, and he has asked the National Assembly to approve the purchase. The request is part of the 2015 budget presented to the National Assembly in Abuja last week by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. It will be the fourth such purchase since he took office in 2010.

To make the acquisition of the gleaming new toy fit for the electoral stomp an attractive proposition, the presidency will trade in one of the planes currently in the presidential fleet. But the purchase will still gulp N400 million as deposit to the manufacturer.

So Sad! Baby falls off mom's back on Okada, crushed by truck

A four month old baby was crushed yesterday, Dec. 23 by a heavy truck conveying crates of soft drinks at Okorodafe Round about in Ughelli-Delta State.  The little girl fell off her mother's back who was travelling on a commercial motorcycle popularly known as "okada."

According to eye witnesses account, the mother of the baby who was simply identified as Ese was said to have been struggling to adjust the wrapper with which she sstrapped the baby to her back while on a moving Okada. The men of the Federal Road Safety Commission has since cleared the remains of the dead baby from the road.
