High-Flying Ghanaian ‘Cocaine Lady’ Sentenced To 8 Years By London Court

Nayele Ametefe (aka Ruby Adu Gyamfi) has been sentenced to of eight years and eight months in prison by a British court according to GhanaWeb.

The sentencing of this Ghanaian woman whose 12.5kg cocaine saga rocked the nation a few months ago happened yesterday, Jan. 6th. However, Ms. Ametefe had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge of attempting to carry 12.5 kilos of cocaine to the United Kingdom which is said to have a street value of over $2million.

Court transcripts show that the judge had remarked that the substance Ms. Ametefe was caught carrying was among the purest form of cocaine ever seized at the Heathrow Airport with a purity level of 79%. 

 

Before her arrest, it was alleged that Ms. Ametefe was en route to the Dominican Republic. The 32-year-old is also believed to have used the VVIP Lounge of Ghana’s only international airport – Kotoka – in the capital Accra to smuggle the prohibited substance outside the shores of the West African country via a British Airways flight.

Obasanjo Accuses President Jonathan Of Squandering Oil Savings

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has again launched a public attack on President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of squandering $25billion crude oil savings left behind by his administration.

Chief Obasanjo made the allegation while hosting the South-West women leaders at his residence in Abeokuta yesterday, Monday Jan 5th.
He said his administration left over $25 billion to his successor, Musa Yar’adua, who raised the sum to $35 billion, and $40billion in Nigeria’s foreign reserve account after paying the outstanding debt at the time. 

Under President Jonathan, the reserves has plummeted to $40billion, Chief Obasanjo said.

"Some people say that the video made them cry, I think because it brings up memories of lost loved ones or conflicted feelings about ageing that all of us end up experiencing," the unnamed Photoshop Surgeon tom Buzzfeed.

INEC bans use of govt cash, resources for campaigns

"Na Wa o!" Please could you tell Nigerians how to identify these said Government Cash? 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has banned candidates seeking for any position from using Government money and other resources for campaigns. 

This is part of the Code of Conduct which the parties have signed.

“All political parties shall separate party business from government business. No political party shall use state vehicles or other public resources for any electioneering campaigns or any other party business,” INEC said in its code.

APC commiserates with Pres. Jonathan over the death of his sister

 

APC has commiserated with President Goodluck Jonathan over the death of his younger sister, Mrs Nancy Jonathan-Olei who died at a private hospital in Bayelsa State yesterday January 4th.

In the statement signed by its National Secretary Lai Mohammed, the party prayed that God comforts President Jonathan and his family.

"We pray that God will grant repose to the soul of the departed, comfort the President and his entire family and give them the strength to bear their loss. We also wish the immediate family of the deceased God’s succour in their moment of darkness,” it said.

Indian Police arrest four Nigerians over internet fraud

The Hyderabad police-India on Saturday January 3rd arrested four Nigerians including a woman over internet fraud. The police said they recovered a car, money and mobile phones from them

The accused persons, Peter Austin (29), Eboh Felix (26), Steffi Ebohon (24) and Uzaonicha Daniel Iwenwanne (26), who after posing as another victim and tracing their phone call data record and email conversations. allegedly contacted a student named Mohd Wasiuddin, and told him he's won some money. The police said the gang managed to convince the unsuspecting victim to deposit money for registration, customs clearance, processing fees and other expenses. 

"Believing the gang members, Wasiuddin deposited about Rs. 35 lakh in different bank accounts operated from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Mumbai, only to realize later that it was fraud" the police in charge said

Queen of England honours Dr. Pamela, other Nigerians in her 2015 Honours list

 

The Queen of England yesterday January 1st honoured Dr Pamela Bernard (pictured left), Professor Uduak Archibong (pictured right) and other Nigerians in its New Year Honours List of 2015 and honoured a few Nigerians. Dr. Pamela is the recently-appointed director of the Nigerian Community Assocation Bedfordshire CIC. She has been honoured for her work. She received an MBE for services to the African and Caribbean community in Bedford. While Prof. Uduak, who is a Professor of Equality at the University of Bradford received an MBE for services to higher education and equality.

Speaking with WG in an interview, Presh, who is the co-founder of Kc-Presh group alongside KCee,  warned upcoming artistes in an interview to stay off musical groups, especially if they know what they are made of. 

Some folks are saying that Presh is still upset with the Limpopo master-KCee who went off his separate way and become one of the top aritist in Nigeria.

23 year old Man decapitates mother with axe on New Year’s Eve

 

23 year old Christian Gomez (pictured above left) has been arrested for decapitating his own mother's head with an axe on New Year's eve at her home in Tampa because she asked him to put some boxes away, Florida police say.

Christian's brother called police and reported the gruesome act. When the police arrived, they discovered the headless body of Maria Suarez-Cassagne-48 (pictured right) near some garbage cans. Christian, who is said to be schizophrenic and has a history of mental illness, had fled in a bicycle before the police arrived but was arrested a few blocks away from the home.

Florida police reportedly said Christian admitted to killing his mother after his arrest and that he had been plotting his mother's murder for two days because he was tired of her nagging. He'd hit his mother over the head with the axe, then cut her head off her in the garage and dragged the body to the garbage outside the home.

Mother of the transgender teen who killed himself reacts about his death on Facebook

Carla Alcorn, the mother of the 17 year old Leelah (Josh) Alcorn transgender who committed suicide on Sunday December 28th by walking in front of a tractor trailer in Ohio (read here) has taken to Facebook to confirm his death and solicit for people's prayers. However, what she wrote attracted many backlashes from folks in and outside the gay/transgender world.  After the much criticism, Carla deleted the post and removed herself from Facebook. Leelah Alcorn blamed his suicide on his Christian parents...
