Nigeria Airports to be Privatized soon-FG

Mr. Benjamin Dikki-Director-General, Bureau of Public Enterprise has announced that the privatization of federal airports in the country would commence soon.

Dikki, who made this known at the ongoing 9th Abuja International Trade Fair, during his presentation on “Reforms and Privatisation Opportunities in Nigeria”  said, “We are planning to commence the privatisation of airports; the airports will be more efficient if the private sector is running them. Very soon, we will engage the Minister of Aviation and we will start a new process of privatising or concession of airports just like we have done with the seaports. We are likely to grant concession of maybe 15 to 20 years, according to the business model agreed on, so that investors can make a reasonable return on the investment during the concession period."

Other sectors which would also be privatized as disclosed by Dikki, include some coal blocs and sale of non-core assets of Nigeria Coal Corporation (NCC) and Nigeria Mining Corporation. "National Council on Privatisation had already approved the sale of residential houses and lands of NCC, Naraguta and Maiduguri Bricks, non-core assets of Makeri, and the Ogwashi-Azagba Coal Bloc," he added.

Currently, some bills, including the Railway Bill, Inland Waterways Bill, Federal Road Authority Bill, Ports and Harbour Reform Bill and Postal Reform Bill; when passed, would eliminate monopoly in all key sectors of the economy, create more jobs and deepen economic growth, Dikki explained.

The President, Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ABUCCIMA), Mr Solomon Nyagba however urged BPE to resume the process of privatizing the oil and gas sector to improve the power supply situation in the country.

British Woman Marries Herself

36-year old Grace Gelder, Britain marries herself after being fed up with dating scene and being single for six years.

Grace-a photographer by profession had built up a brilliant relationship with herself - and creating that bond with someone else seemed like too much hard work.  She 'proposed' to herself on a park bench and decided to say "I Do" to herself in a full wedding ceremony with 50 guests.
Reports said the Londoner was inspired by the Björk song Isobel, which includes the line, 'My name's Isobel, married to myself', which she said struck a chord with her and it was then she decided to walk solo down the aisle -- bought a dress, a ring, rehearsed vows and eventually wed in a farmhouse in rural Devon watched by her sister and friends -sealing the deal by planting a kiss on a mirror.

"A few did comment, in a light-hearted way, that it was a bit narcissistic," Gelder said.
"Obviously, if you have just announced you're marrying yourself, it is plainly a statement of self-love, and I was under no illusion how self-indulgent that might appear.
Grace Gelder
"But I was completely comfortable with my motivations. I'd been on a journey of personal development using meditation, dance and performance to increase my self-awareness," Gelder told the Guardian.
Although the wedding holds no legal ground, Grace is glad she is no longer a 'single' lady.

Hewlett-Packard plans to split into two Companies

Hewlett-Packard-HP plans to split into two companies to put more focus on the faster-growing corporate services market.

A wall-street Journal reports, HP will separate its computer and printer businesses from its corporate hardware and services operations, and spin the unit off through a tax-free distribution of shares to stockholders next year.

Founded by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in a Palo Alto, California garage in 1939, HP was one of the companies that shaped Silicon Valley and the PC revolution. However, it has struggled lately to adapt to the shift towards mobile computing, and it has been overshadowed by younger rivals-Chinese PC maker Lenovo, which is now world's No. 1 PC maker by shipment.
As reported by Forbes, Current HP lead independent director Patricia Russo would be chairman of the enterprise company. The CEO of the PC and printer company would be Dion Weisler, who is currently an executive in that division, the report said.

Doctors welcome first baby-Vincent-after a pioneering Womb Transplant

36-year-old Swedish woman has been delivered of a first baby by caesarean section from a transplanted womb.

The baby boy’s birth took place in Sweden after surgeons at the University of Gothenburg performed the pioneering transplant procedure.

Being the world's first baby born to a woman with a transplanted womb — a medical first — only a victorious name would do, which is why his parents named him "Vincent," meaning "to conquer," according to his mother.
He was delivered in the 31st week of pregnancy and weighed 3.9 pounds — normal for that stage of pregnancy. The Mother was born without a womb, which was donated from a 61-year-old woman, a close family friend who had gone through menopause after giving birth to two children.

The womb donor is now baby Vincent's godmother and her two sons have also visited the family.

Though the identity of the parents, a Swedish couple, has not been released, but the baby’s father said: “It was a pretty tough journey over the years, but we now have the most amazing baby.
“He is very, very cute, and he doesn't even scream, he just murmurs."
"He’s no different from any other child, but he will have a good story to tell. One day he can look at the newspaper articles about how he was born and know that he was the first in the world to be born this way," he added.

Prof. Brannstrom, who led the research and delivered the baby with the help of his wife, a midwife, said: “The baby is fantastic. But it is even better to see the joy in the parents and how happy he made them.

For the proud parents, the years of research and experimentation were well worth the wait. Both mother and child are now at home and said to be doing well.

KATE WINSLET: Why I didn't date Leonardo Dicaprio

The "Titanic" star Kate Winslet has revealed why she never dated Leonardo Dicaprio, though their friendship began some 15 years ago when they were working on the movie-"Titantic."
To the dismay of fans, the actress said that her relationship with DiCaprio has always been platonic-ABC.
Kate told Marie Claire U.K., "I think the reason that friendship works is because there was never any romantic thing. It’s so disappointing for people to hear that, because in the soap opera of the Kate and Leo story we fell in love at first sight and had a million snogs, but actually we never did. "He always saw me as one of the boys; I’ve never really been a girly-girl. We needed each other to lean on because we were very young and working all kinds of crazy bloody hours and it was a shock to the system."
Both stars are nearing 40 -- DiCaprio's big birthday is later this year, while Winslet will turn 40 next October -- she's looking ahead to their next chapter as pals. However, she's not planning to celebrate with her longtime friend because Leonardo likes to have his own moments.
