Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Alison-Madueke, becomes OPEC's first Female President

Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke has emerged as the president of the international oil body at OPEC headquaters in Vienna, Austria today at to the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.

Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who was OPEC's alternate president, has become the first female to be elected into the office and would serve for one year. She is expected to commence work immediately to pilot the affairs of the organization at a time members are coming together to find ways of curbing falling global crude oil prices, which dropped to about $73.07 per barrel on Wednesday.

Mrs. Alison succeeds Libyan Vice-Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish.
